I FINALLY FINISHED !

I posted on an ongoing project of this skirt, I have now finished it…. after starting this project more times than necessary I finally managed to understand how many increases I had to do to get the volume of the skirt I wanted.

In terms of project despite being a quite big one for me (as a beginner) it is also simple! Only using one stitch, the double crochet stitch! I have already worn this skirt many times since having finished it.

So this is how I did this project (mind you my measurements lay between a size M and unfortunately sometimes L).

How to begin!

I started with 185 initial chains – more or less 89 cm (+/- 35 inches) for the circumference of my waist. Must be multiples of 15 chains if you wish to alter the number of initial chains depending on your waist measurements.

Row 1 until Row 8 – Double crochet on each chain until the end, repeat this on all  8 rows.

Row 9 -  The beginning of the design

**** 5 Double Crochet´s in each of the 5 chains/stiches below and then skip one chain below, chain one and double crochet in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one and double crochet in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one and double crochet in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one and double crochet in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one **** repeat until the end of the row.

10 Row until Row 25  – Repeat Row 9 so that the crochet stitches you have on the row below are the same as the ones on the row you are working on:

Row 26 – This row you will start to increase, and should start to increase where your hip starts to appear larger than your waist (the row may vary thus you should measure the length between your waist line and the start of your hip to determined when you should start to increase the skirt) so this row is as follows:

**** 2 Double Crochet´s in the first chain, then 3 Double Crochet´s in each of the next 3 chains below and then 2 Double Crochet´s in the next chain, then skip one chain below, chain one and double crochet in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one and double crochet in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one and double crochet in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one and double crochet in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one, **** repeat until the end of the row.

In fact what you are doing is repeating the rows but adding one double crochet at the beginning of the 5 double crochet stitches and adding one at the end.

Row 27 until Row 29 : **** 7 Double Crochet´s in each of the 7 chains below and then skip one chain below, chain one and double crochet in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one and double crochet in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one and double crochet in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one and double crochet in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one, **** repeat until the end of the row.

Row 30 – This row you will continue to increase, so this row is as follows:

**** 2 Double Crochet´s in the first chain, then 5 Double Crochet´s in each of the next 5 chains below and then 2 Double Crochet´s in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one and double crochet in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one and double crochet in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one and double crochet in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one and double crochet in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one, **** repeat until the end of the row.

Row 31 until Row 33 **** 9 Double Crochet´s in each of the 9 chains below and then skip one chain below, chain one and double crochet in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one and double crochet in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one and double crochet in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one and double crochet in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one, **** repeat until the end of the row.

Row 34 – This row you will continue to increase, so this row is as follows:

**** 2 Double Crochet´s in the first chain, then 7 Double Crochet´s in each of the next 7 chains below and then 2 Double Crochet´s in the next chain, then skip one chain below, chain one and double crochet in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one and double crochet in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one and double crochet in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one and double crochet in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one **** repeat until the end of the row.

Row 35 until Row 38 **** 11 Double Crochet´s in each of the 11 chains below and skip one chain below, chain one and double crochet in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one and double crochet in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one and double crochet in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one and double crochet in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one **** repeat until the end of the row.

Row 39 – This row you will continue to increase, so this row is as follows:

**** 2 Double Crochet´s in the first chain, then 9 Double Crochet´s in each of the next 9 chains below and then 2 Double Crochet´s in the next chain, then skip one chain below, chain one and double crochet in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one and double crochet in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one and double crochet in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one and double crochet in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one **** repeat until the end of the row.

Row 40 until Row 43 **** 13 Double Crochet´s in each of the 13 chains below and then skip one chain below, chain one and double crochet in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one and double crochet in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one and double crochet in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one and double crochet in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one **** repeat until the end of the row.

Row 44 – This row you will continue to increase, so this row is as follows:

**** 2 Double Crochet´s in the first chain, then 11 Double Crochet´s in each of the next 11 chains below and then 2 Double Crochet´s in the next chain, then skip one chain below, chain one and double crochet in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one and double crochet in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one and double crochet in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one and double crochet in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one **** repeat until the end of the row.

Row 45 until Row 48 **** 15 Double Crochet´s in each of the 15 chains below and skip one chain below, chain one and double crochet in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one and double crochet in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one and double crochet in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one and double crochet in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one **** repeat until the end of the row.

Row 49 – This row you do your final increase, so this row is as follows:

**** 2 Double Crochet´s in the first chain, then 13 Double Crochet´s in each of the next 13 chains below and then 2 Double Crochet´s in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one and double crochet in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one and double crochet in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one and double crochet in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one and double crochet in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one **** repeat until the end of the row.

You must now decide if you want to further increase or not just keep following the above logic of increasing stiches

Row 50 until Row 93 **** 17 Double Crochet´s in each of the 17chains below and then skip one chain below, chain one and double crochet in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one and double crochet in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one and double crochet in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one and double crochet in the next chain, skip one chain below, chain one **** repeat until the end of the row.

Last Row 86 – to finish I did a simple Double crochet in every chain below

This will leave your skirt with a length of approximately 64 cm or 25 inches.

After this just sow the side of your skirt.

Here is a part of the written pattern to help you visulaize the stiches and how the increases were carried out!

Crochet pattern for white cotton skirt

Project Checklist

·         Yarn – ??? 100grs of 100% Cotton Crochet Thread yarn or Lace yarn in white – Apologies but have no idea ow many skeins were used it was such a lengthy project I lost count

·         Hook : 4,0 mm

·         The only stitches you must know to start this project are:

o    Slip Knot

o    Chain

o    Double Crochet

Mistakes have been made:

As always despite having tried to see if the size of the skirt was ok at the waist line during the whole process of crocheting it, at the end it seemed to be tight so I sowed a zipper for ease of putting it on, it was the first time with crochet and sowing machine and quite a challenge (being a beginner as I am I choose an invisible zipper which seems to be more difficult) it is not perfect but I managed to do it after 5 times having to re doo the whole thing!

Because I did not block the skirt after using it a couple of times it became a bit loose so I put an elastic around the inner part of the circle – the elastic I managed to buy was not as thin as would be advisable, but it worked well in the end.

Am now considering the possibility of taking out the zipper altogether …

As always I must say I am not a designer and thus obtain assistance from various sources when creating my own projects this time I was inspired to create a these skirt using the Lanidor skirt for inspiration! I do quite like the result and believe I will be using it quite often.

The stiches used in this project could be simpler and the result was this skirt not bad for a first try! By the way with all the work involved I do believe if I bought the skirt in the first place it would have come out cheaper! But it is the process of creating that I am absolutely in love with.

Have fun doing this and any questions let me know and I will try and help!!

Hi, thanks for stopping by!

Not having anyone to teach me I had the assistance of the internet, more specifically Youtube Tutorials. I have come to discover that with the videos the language barrier can be overcome as you can crochet at the same time as you see in the video.

Let the posts
come to you.
